100 most influential images of all time

Lunch Atop A Skyscraper, 1932

Lunch Atop A Skyscraper, 1932

Description: 11 men are casually eating and chatting it up while sitting on a skyscraper that was on the 69th floor which was 840 feet above Manhattan. The photographer stays a mystery. The photo was taken as a campaign for the massive skyscraper complex

Why I Chose This Photo: I chose this picture because it really caught my attention when I was scrolling through all those pictures. I’m afraid of heights, so personally I would be terrified if I had to do that. Props to those people up there because that is very scary.

Falling Man, Richard Drew, 2001

Falling Man, Richard Drew, 2001

Description: Normally the photos that were taken on 9/11 were of planes and buildings but this one is of a person falling out of a building. The man escaped from the building but just ended up falling. This picture has power because it’s not about who the subject is, it’s about what he became.

Why I Chose This Photo: I chose this photo because it is very graphic and sad. It really caught my eye because you never really see pictures like this. This really hits the heart because this is so real and seeing a picture of someone falling out of a building trying to save his life but ends up dying anyways is just sad.

Fire Escape Collapse, Stanley Forman, 1975

Fire Escape Collapse, Stanley Forman, 1975

Description: There was a fire and these kids were trying to escape. They claim that they were “swimming through the air”. One of them died and one of them survived but was brutally hurt. The photographer stated, “I was shooting pictures as they were falling—then I turned away. It dawned on me what was happening, and I didn’t want to see them hit the ground. I can still remember turning around and shaking.”

Why I Chose This Photo: I chose this photo because it relates to the 9/11 picture above this one. This picture gives me the same vibes and it shows the kids escaping from the fire. It’s the same concept that they tried to escape from dying but still died in the end. Only 1 out of 2 died this time though. This photo is incredible sad and I feel for the photographer who took this.

fill flash

Fill flash is a technique in photography where a photographer uses a flash to fill in shadows and add light to a subject. This technique is commonly used in outdoor photography, especially when the sun is behind the subject, creating harsh shadows on the face or body. By using a fill flash, the photographer can balance the light and make the subject appear more evenly lit, resulting in a more pleasing and natural-looking image. Fill flash can also be used in low-light situations to add a pop of light to the subject and make them stand out more in the photo. To use fill flash, the photographer sets the flash to a lower power setting and adjusts the camera’s exposure to balance the ambient light and the flash output.
